It's Only Monday?

Today senior year started. I almost called this post "Senior Year," but I realized that after one day I can't really say what senior year is like. All I can say is that I'm already stressed. It seems like everyone has it all figured out already. Even though I know they don't. We all know we're in a shit economy, our teachers are insane, and we're stuck somewhere between adult and child.

I'm freaked out. Plus my Blink CD is skipping.

I'm off to make a million lists because it makes me feel better.

Post Secret Sunday

SO I went out last night. And this morning I completely forgot about post secret and I missed it last week so I'm posting it now because better late than never! By the way, my birthday is next Saturday so I officially got my 2nd birthday gift today. (The first was really early because it was airmailed from Trinidad and it usually takes an eternity for things to get here.) It's very exciting because it's something I've wanted forever, a new camera! I have a really nice one but I don't like to take it out to events because I'm neurotic about it getting scratched up. And plus I don't like people touching it haha, oh paranoia. So this camera will be designated for people and event pictures. Anyways, here's this week's Post Secret pick!
As always, you can find this post secret card, and others, at the post secret blog.

Happy Sunday!

TFLN

What's good? I don't know what it is about that phrase but I love it. If you ever hear me use it, I'm most likely in a good mood.

A new site: Things My Date Really Said Last Night Samples:
“Let me know if you see a cop. I’m not really supposed to be out right now. Probation. Assault.”
“You’re not one of those girls that’s slept with tons of guys because of daddy issues, are you?”
It has the same kind of theme going on as TFLN, only different.
(434): why are there goldfish crackers all over my bed? (540): you decided you wanted to name them & keep them as pets.
via texts from last night (it's an old one)

Enjoy!

This morning

Every morning, my father wakes up at 7 in the morning to go swimming. Why, do you ask? Because he likes the morning crowd and he has friends that swim early and so on. This morning, I decided to go with him because at least it would get me out of bed before noon. So he dropped me at Starbucks where I worked on summer schoolwork. There, I found another morning crew. This was of an entirely different variety; the caffeine before work addicts and mom's fueling up for long days full of errands and play dates. It's interesting to see how such different people can come together over something they love, whether it be coffee or an early morning swim.

And, to make your day, a picture from my friend who visited China this summer.

Read carefully.

Tripped Out

Well, well, well. I've been north and south this summer. Most of the time I was peeing in the woods. And now, after arriving back home, I'm starting to miss it all again. Living out of backpacks, setting up tents, eating delicious fresh fruits, portaging for miles and miles, riding in the backs of trucks, wearing the same 3 shirts for 20 days, it's all just a fond memory now. So as not to bore you with my words, I'll jump into a nice little photostory of the last 6 weeks of my life. Each day this week, I'll feature some sort of photo from an aspect of my summer.

First, I ventured far southward to Nicaragua for about 2 weeks.  We laughed, cried, threw up, and ate the most delectable fruits on earth.

Just getting into Managua, tired but excited

It's All In The Details

If you've ever decorated a room (or even an entire apartment or house) then you know how tricky it can be to capture a feeling or mood in your space. Maybe you're missing out on one very important decor aspect. Ever heard the magic's in the little things?

Good Girls Go Bad

Pictures from the cape. Sorry it took so long. Too much procrastination going on last week.

This song has been in my head all day. I'm not sure if this has already been talked about, but I love it. On a side note, I can't wait for gossip girl to be back. I miss the pointless drama of made up people. Plus, Chuck and Blair. Together!!!

Pottery and books

Beware. This isn't a wacky Wednesday. It is simply just a regular Wednesday, which ironically, is hump day. That wasn't funny, except if you watch Will & Grace and even then, not so much. So anyway, on this fine day, I plan to... start my third and final summer reading book entitled Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. I like to read, and that is one of the reasons I'm taking a lit class this year. But for me it just seems like a better option sometimes than watching television. Unless it's prime time and the latest episode of Weeds, Gossip Girl, or Grey's is on. However, I don't really get how some of my friends can go an entire summer without picking up a book. I mean, by the time AP testing was over I had put on hold about seven books from the library. Not that I read all of them, and yes, two were about drawing, but I can only read so fast before my renewal limit is up. So, enough with that. On to the next topic.

These are the mugs I want from Etsy. Now, I didn't spend my whole night looking around there so this post is kind of lame. And it is by no means an Etsy Addiction. Because well, it's boring if you only have one Etsy thing. But I really like cool pottery, so I had to give an example. Glaze colors can get so cool with how they drip together and they do all sorts of neat stuff.

Okay that's it for now. I'll see if I can get some pictures of our dock out here up later this week, hopefully before the weather gets bad. Have a fantastic Weds.

Rant

I'm having a major breakdown. Okay. So we will all be seniors this year. Yes, I know. Great, amazing, good luck, whatever. But I thought it would be nice to get some shirts that say seniors on them. We all came up with a really cool design. A bunch of people were really into it, and now four people are backing out of the getting the shirts. I know this is a stupid thing to get mad at, but if you say you want to get something, and you commit to it, you can't change your mind and just ditch everyone. It's really lame and rude.

Okay. I just had to get that off my chest. My apologies.

P.S. Almost done with the second summer reading book! (The Road by Cormack McCarthy)

Manicure Monday

Welcome back to MANICURE MONDAY! Um, yeah. So I walked around with that chipping ridiculous copper polish for wayyy too long. Not to mention I haven't done a pedicure since prom. Most of the time I don't really care about inconsequential stuff like nail color, but it's summer and flip-flops are abundant, so I decided I would go for the double whammy. Yep, I match.

It's a Sephora by OPI color, "How many karats?" You might recognize it as the color I wore for prom, but it's great for setting off a fresh tan :)

The Cape

Derek Lam Fall '09 ready-to-wear via style.com

Valentino Fall '09 ready-to-wear via style.com

I thought I would be sly with the capes and cape cod. I saw some capes in the September ELLE and was inspired. I don't know how many women can actually pull off a cape, but they look mysterious in a way.

You can see I'm having too much fun for words out here on Cape Cod. Well, as much fun you can have with a three book summer reading list. I'm almost done with the first one, How to Read Literature Like a Professor, by Foster. It's a real nail-biter. I couldn't wait to see what spring symbolizes.. But alas, I have only a few pages left and a week more of vacation for frolicking. I have, however, managed to get somewhat tan and somewhat burnt, with freckles dotting my nose as well.

The other day in stop and shop, I discovered Oreo Klondike bars. Yes. I said Oreo. They rock. There are bits of Oreo goodness in the chocolaty coating around the cookies and cream ice cream filling. Yum! Also, they have these new hand held scanners that you carry around with you and scan your own groceries. Just for fun, we tried it, and almost forgot to scan a few things.

Because there are no more Klondike bars, I bid you farewell as I have yesterday's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me... podcast on my ipod waiting for me.

Bonus! Chatham craft fair later. Can't wait!

Thirsty Thursday

This was written down on a post-it note in my kitchen, so I really don't know if it's any good, but who knows.

1 scoop raspberry sorbet

1 peach sliced
1 cup orange juice
some strawberries

Happy Thursday!

Wacky Wednesday

First, a very nice blog, A Cup Of Jo, by Joanna Goddard. I have found many a cute dress, or a link to a lovely wedding on her blog. It is also where I found the next two things.

Second, A really cute shirt dress from Frances May

Third, I have always wanted to paint a square of wall space with chalkboard paint, and I enjoy the classic black or green as much as the next schoolgirl. But who doesn't like color? Well, some people. However, I am not one of them. Bring it on.
Chalkboard Paint... in color!

Lastly, Furr by Blitzen Trapper.

Have a very wonderful Wednesday.

Early in the morning

Thank goodness Lilia hasn't been tagging herself with her posts, because she has been the only one posting for a good couple weeks. I throw in one here and there but it's mostly her.
Unrelatedly, I have decided to resuscitate thirsty thursday, since summertime is perfect for smoothies and drinks of all sorts. Starting next thursday get ready for some interesting beverage ideas.

Tomorrow I will depart for Cape Cod, or as we east coasters like to shorten it to, the cape. During my two week stay, I hope to get my AP lit books read and catch up on my relaxation. Yesterday Lilia and I went to yoga at our local studio, and even though it was for all levels, I'm feeling soreness in my shoulders. But the point I was going to make was that I like yoga. I don't think about anything except what I'm doing when I'm yoga-ing, and it's peaceful. I feel happy when I walk out the door, like everything is okay even though I have eight articles and eight videos in spanish I have to watch over the next few weeks.

Bye Bye Tomatoes

There's currently a tomato blight, which is bad news for our vegetable garden. Seriously, it's really kind of gross.
I can't decide if I uploaded that upside-down. I keep flipping it around in iPhoto and anyway I put it, it just looks funny.
Anyways, the rest of the garden is flourishing (for the most part), but I found some very brightly colored berry in my seriously overgrown backyard. They reminded me of those poisonous frogs that are so pretty but so poisonous.
Just a quick check-in to share the goings on of the nature on my property.

"Be A Sebastian"

So recently I was creepin around on twitter (or twittahh twittah as I like to call it) and I came across Jake T. Austin's page. When I was finished I found myself cracking up at his youtube videos.

Here are a couple that I particularly enjoyed

Of course the Tales of Sebastian could not be left out

Lisa Mitchell

Lisa Mitchell, originally from England but raised in Australia, is a singer-songwriter you should know about. Her first studio album Wonder came out on July 31 and her first two singles off of it are addictive and adorable.

She recently performed at the giant Brit fest, Glasto. Here's a video clip montage of her time there set to the sound of her song, "Coin Laundry."

Her single "See you when you get here" off of her 2008 EP Welcome to the Afternoon is great, but slightly haunting.

She's been touring for several years, primarily around Australia, and her YouTube channel is full of live performances. I suggest checking her out, she's quickly becoming one of my faves.

Shouts to Yanick for this discovery, not gonna front like I'm in the know on the Australian scene.

Etsy Addiction Revival

Today's subject: Bows
Remember those cute hair accessories you wore as a kid? Well, I do and I still have some of them. Here are some options for those who like to act like 7 year olds but got rid of all the old goodies.
