Hello Lover

Lilia once mentioned a website called Polyvore and its amazingness. Looking at fashion for me is completely addicting. "I die." That's how I wasted the better part of the mid-day. I didn't make an account for fear of forgetting about college applications alltogether and Lilia has already sent in applications to a few schools, so uh, no pressure. But someday, when I have endless hours of downtime, i.e. december break, I hope to make an account and have some fun with the wonders of digitalized fashion collage boards.

Until then, I have searched the surface (there are so many collages to choose from) and brought you my favorites so far. Notice my love of Taylor Momsen? Did anyone remember her from How the Grinch Stole Christmas? Hint: Cindy Lou-Who.

Post Secret Sunday

Abu Dhabi?

You may know this vast city to be the capital of the United Arab Emirates, or perhaps the growing wealth that's taken home there. However, I am coming to know of this place, worlds away from our own, as the home of New York University's newest campus.  NYU has built an entirely new offshoot of it's educational hub in the center of the gulf states, and arguably the center of the Middle Eastern world.

Initally, I heard about NYU's Abu Dhabi campus, officially opening in the fall of 2010, and thought to myself, well that's cool, but definitely not happening.  Well, as it happens, the Abu Dhabi campus seems pretty cool.  Centered in a coastal desert city, there's incredible culture in the area, despite Abu Dhabi becoming known as one of the most westernized cities in the Middle East.

Not only that, but NYU Abu Dhabi is looking more and more financially appealing, with it's need blind admissions process and largely advertised exceptional financial aid packages.  Going there would be risky and unconventional, yet exciting and adventurous.

Featured Etsy

Again, I have been on the epic hunt for the perfect pair of boots, and nothing has come up. Perhaps because I'm being much too picky. In any case, following my wanderings on Etsy, I came across this amazing vintage vendor, Dear Golden. Here are some of her items.

Manicure Monday

I've kind of abandoned Manicure Monday lately, mostly for the reason that I've been doing everyone else's nails instead of my own. But here are the two colors I've been rocking for the past few weeks.
Russian Navy by OPI

Princesses Rule by OPI
(It's a lot pinker & sparklier in person... very princess-y in fact.)

It's been pretty perfectly autumnal lately so I'm thinking a deep maroon will be next.

By the way, these Jac Vanek bracelets are growing on me. A few girls at school have been wearing Vanek bracelets for a while now and at first I thought they were really lame, but they could be good with the right outfit (and this shirt, ha). But Miley & Mandy jumping on the band wagon gives me doubts.

Currently Loving...

White Rabbits! I was catching up on my favorite podcast, La Blogotheque, when I came across these amazing White Rabbits videos.  The gist of what they do on La Blogotheque is to hit the streets with bands such as Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear, and Delta Spirit, to make live music.  Sometimes crowds form, sometimes they don't.  Locations have been streetcars and trains or just a band walking around Paris.  On that note, I give you White Rabbits.

I couldn't pick just one!

Ready To Uff

I'm just gonna put it out there, I've been Ready to Uff for some time now. If you've heard of synth-pop rapper Uffie, I'm sure you understand. I had her tracks on repeat for the whole of spring '07 and I'm so glad she's back in my iTunes. She finally has an official music video, a 2010 CD release date, and some stateside recognition.

Love it!

Balmain Love

"For Spring, [head designer at Balmain,] Christophe Decarnin, brought out another whammy of a no-brainer blockbuster: disco cavewoman goes to the front. His army of sizzling, sleek-limbed supergirls strode out with huge-shouldered, metal-epauletted military tailcoats. Their T-shirts were tattered; bullet belts were slung around artfully "destroyed," stained, and holed jeans or, yet more sensationally, minute, hypersexed, raggedy suede and leather loincloths (the term "skirt" hardly covers it)." Marant, Isabel

"The show was packed with the kind of item-y, sexy little pieces that are designed to give a girl's wardrobe an instant update." (style.com)
I'm in lust with these looks. Really, you could see me rocking all of these in the halls of our high school. No joke. I would kill for the boots. I'll take them in black, please. And everyone knows my love of bows. Haha, that rhymes. Okay, I'm a dork. Just look at the pics now.

Dior-arama

Remember making dioramas?? I miss that.
Despite the Dior spring 2010 r-t-w being predominantly lingerie-like, I liked a handful of Galliano's designs . To give a bit of background, "he seized his advantage, melding a soft, delightfully thought-out version of the idea into a show with a forties film noir theme. Galliano said he found the cinematic cue while thinking about Lauren Bacall... That central character—a provocative, smoldering femme fatale with a side-parted, over-one-eye hairdo and red lips—gave him free reign to script a wardrobe narrative. It started with abbreviated wartime trenchcoats, flipped through silver lamé dresses, arrived at a sequence in which the heroine is seen in her scanties, and then followed her out to make a drop-dead entrance in some nightclub or other." Apple-tastic!

Well, it's that time of the year again. APPLE TIME! Fall is one of my favorite seasons, by far. I love the sights, smells and feelings associated with fall. One of my favorite parts: the apples. They're crisp, bitter, sweet, crunchy, smooth. There are so many types, and flavors and colors, it's sometimes overwhelming.

Lately when I head into the store, or go to an outdoor market, I'm inclined to buy a bag of apples. And that's precisely how I ended up with a massive brown paper bag full of the delicious orbs. With so many apples, and too few hours in the day to eat them all, I decided to embark on some much needed apple-related cooking. The kitchen was an apple infested mess. However, I made a fantastic apple crumble, and some apple muffins.

In the flurry of the whole experience, I obviously forgot to take any pictures whatsoever. However, here are the recipes I used for the crumble and the muffins. Enjoy!
