Crafting

Yesterday I went to Target with my mom and aunt and our first stop once inside was the clearance bins, of course. There, I found a set of 8 blank cards (4 with polka dots, 4 without), and a little spool of 6 ribbons, a yard each. They were both only $1 so I got them (well, my mom technically got them). Since then I've been busy decorating my cards. So far I only know what I'm going to do with one of them and I've made three.

Here are a couple of my projects:

1) I don't really like the cloud so I'm toying with putting ribbon on it to make the shape a little more cloud-like. For this one I just glued the ribbon directly onto the card.

2)On this one, I started with a paper cut-out of a heart and glued the ribbon onto that so I could go in after and trim it down. Before attaching the heart to the card it looked like this:

I can't post the third card quite yet because it's being sent to someone who might see this and I want them to see it in their mailbox before they do on the internet!

Kitsune Noir

Recently, while reading the blog Design is Mine, I came across this other fantastic blog/website called Kitsune Noir.  Summer, of Design is Mine, highlighted the awesome free desktop wallpaper downloads.  I've gotten a bunch for myself, and rotate them on a half-hourly basis through my background, it's a great way to have some cool art to look at on your computer, and it definitely spices things up.  However, Kitsune Noir is also an awesome blog, so check it out!
             

 

            

 

                

                              

No Clue

This weekend it was totally gorgeous outside. And today it was snowing (horray pretty snow). From 64º to 34º. How does that happen? Well I was wondering about summer because of the warmer weather, though it seems I got a little ahead of myself. Anyway, I have no clue what I'm doing this summer. No clue. Alex and Lilia are set to go, and as far as I know it, I'll be chillin' up here in connecticut and maybe I'll even hit up a few lakes with the rents and the boat. Those will be some good times.
I was debating on whether or not I should get a job like at a gardening center or some cool place, but if qualified professionals and people with MBAs and stuff can't hold a job without getting laid off, what chance does an unexperienced teenager have? Possibly summer-school to get-ahead, but gym over the summer doesn't sound like much fun. I told myself I would work on my portfolio this summer and do mad cool art but left to my own defices, I don't think anything will get done. My last resort is a summer program at a nearby art school because, let's face it, it would be chill and close and I'd get stuff done. Right in front of your very eyes I have made up my mind.

Hating on Style

Speaking of college.. Everyone else is doing it, so what's one more blog post.

I had a portfolio review today. A portfolio is required to apply to most art schools, depending on your major.

I might say I have my own drawing style. I tend to outline, like contouring but with shading. I know that this isn't what art schools are looking for now (at least, that's what the last two reviewers have said). But aren't they looking for art that has its own style? Something to separate it from all the other people's art?
